| The purpose of the Josephine County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training is to provide the private citizens who completes this course with the basic skills that they will need to be prepared for and to respond to their community's immediate needs in the aftermath of a disaster, when emergency services are not immediately available. By working together, CERTs can assist in saving lives and protecting property using the basic techniques in this course. We also have a specialized team that is becoming more community service oriented and providing First Aid services at community events and assisting the GPDPS and the Towne Center Association with Traffic Control/ Crowd Control at various community events. |
| Josephine County CERT was established August 2003. We have since trained over 220 volunteers. Our basic academy is generally 9 weeks long, but may be ran in a 4 week session from time to time. Classes are one night or day a week for three hours or can be 8 hours depending on if the class is a 9 week or 4 week session. The final class will conclude with a disaster simulation drill. During class you will receive training in the following: > Disaster Preparedness (How to build a 72 hour Kit) > Fire Suppression (Fire Extinguisher Operations) > Medical Triage > Patient Assessment > Patient Treatment > Search and Rescue Techniques > Damaged Building Assessment > Weapons of Mass Destruction > Disaster Psychology > Incident Command Systems (ICS 100/ IS 700) |
